Institute of Electrical Engineering (IEE) was created as a structural sub-division in 1998 on the basis of two oldest MPEI faculties having the rich traditions – Electromechanical Faculty and Faculty of Electrical Equipment and Automation of Industry and Transport. At present, IEE includes ten specific departments, 18 research and development labs, Russian-French Educational Center “Schneider Electric – MPEI”, three certification centers, particularized center for competition auction (for tenders). IEE performs the training of Bachelors and Masters in two directions and engineers on 12 specialties and 24 specializations as well as the Ph.D.-students and Dr. Sci. candidates. Educational curriculum of Bachelor training in the direction “Electrical Engineering, Electromechanics and Electrical Technologies” is certified by the Independent Association of Engineering Education of Russia (certificate No. 0037). IEE teaching staff includes 62 professors, 91 associate-professors, 43 senior lecturers and assistant-professors, 76 senior and junior researches. Among IEE teachers there are many famous scientists, laureates of State and other awards, Honored Science Workers of Russian Federation. IEE departments are equipped with the modern laboratory facilities. Educational process ensures the permanent students’ access to highly productive and high-speed computers having the modern software and Internet-access. One of the directions of computer-aided technologies developing at IEE is the development of hardware and software possibilities for automated laboratory practical works for students with arranging the multi-user access to laboratory equipment via computer networks.
Besides the disciplines included into the state education standard, IEE students can study the specific author’s disciplines offered by IEE teachers. IEE graduates are the wide-profile specialists in the field of designing, manufacture and operation of the electromechanical and electronic systems and its components, the electric supply systems for industrial and autonomous objects, the electric equipment of transport objects, development and operation of electric technological installations. The deep knowledge in natural sciences and special disciplines gives the IEE graduates the opportunity of fast adaptation in scientific organizations, industrial enterprises and companies, as well as in the commercial structures, and allows them to find the fast solution of different scientific and technological problems.
